My Elders & Influences

Here is an evolving list of my elders and influences. Chronologically as they appeared in my life. I credit them with role modelling and transmitting energies and ways of being to me. Explore their worthy works!

Philip Carr-Gomm – brought the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids into its fullness, and so into my life. I saw in him that the marriage of being an articulate intellectual and an immersive experiential could be fruitful.

Eric Maddern – created the space of Cae Mabon that hosted the first Druid Retreat that I attended. He role modelled the bardic arts and brought alive to me the possibility of living in a state of being that I had previously only found through my imagination when reading history and fantasy books. He pointed me to menswork.

JJ Howell – showed me a way of being as a Druid Celebrant. I felt moved by the love and human fragility breaking open into awe that I experienced with him. He pointed me to the MKP.

Ray Simpson – keeps aflame the spirit of Celtic Christianity on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. I have been privileged to feel the humility and humour of that native wisdom stream. He showed me what being a Soul Friend and a Christian means.

Philip Burley – has integrity as a medium and leader of prayer. My late friend Sam Goulding brought me into participation with his works.

Tarisha Seligman – holds ceremonial spaces at Osho Leela where she brings through music that has elemental, indigenous and deeply emotional qualities. I witnessed her acts of deep listening and intuitive channelling of what a group of people needs to hear through her singing medicine.

David Charlesworth – is the Abbot of the Catholic Benedictine Monastery of Buckfast Abbey. I appreciate his warm and gregarious theological conversation. At present my lifestyle involves attending his services most Sundays, participating in his study groups and being a monastic guest for one week a year.

Stephen Jenkins and Martin Shaw – I cannot claim any personal relationship with these men, but it feels appropriate to link to them. I recently witnessed them both discussing prayer at an in person event in my local church. I was impressed with their lucidity, had previously watched Stephen’s film Griefwalker, and will be studying with Martin later this year.
