I recently read in the news that “time may not exist” according to the latest thoughts of physicists. I have been saying this in public since I started this website, and I will refresh the spiritual case for it in this post.
Existence is here and now in a state of eternal transformation. Everything in is flux and impermanent. All is part of the one. This is the non-dual cosmic entity. Call it what you like.
Then here we are as incarnated beings. We live from a sense of “I” related to a materially perishable form. The rest of existence seems “other”. This is dualism.
When we look out on reality from our perspective, that perspective is informed by the norms of our material form. So a bursting bubble seems ephemeral; quick and not really here in a distinct way. However a mountain seems permanent and unchanging. The sun certainly seems eternal.
Step in “mind”. I believe in different levels of mind which I’ll cover in another post. Taking the “thinking brain” mind concept we are familiar with, this allows us sentient beings to learn through experiencing patterns. These can be forecast into the future and the past, as prediction and memory respectively.
We come in teams! A “Hive Mind”. We communicate our concepts and measurements with one another and store them through the medium of language technology. This post in an example, a textbook would be another. The curating of and consensus making of this body of data is … cue “science”!
All sense of perspective comes from being an incarnated being.
All time is a subjective perception of arising and passing.
Thus time is based in duality; the all / divine is just unfolding / being.
Time is a perceptual resource for analysis / calculation.
It is quantified by the material lifespan of the perceiving being, ordered around the scale of existence that they experience as normal reality.
Matter is vibration. Vibration is held ‘together’ / alive / cohesive by orbits.
To measure time one can divide by the oscillations / orbits of an entity. Using an entity at a higher scale of existence provides dependability.
Thus we measure time derived from the earth’s orbits of the sun, and subdivide this.
A mystical aside:
Note that the reference point is relative – earth orbits. This is the 0 point. Create a model for scaling this up and down the scale of existence and we could identify a scale-uniform measure of time that is not artificially anchored to the life-cycle of one subjective, imperfect entity (Earth / Sun).
I speculate there is a way of perceiving this within the being; derived from its substance and energy signature and its oscillations and life cycle. I expect the outcome would be divisible by sacred numbers / harmonic frequencies and could constitute the universal 0 point. It may be the frequency of B flat as proposed by my friend Julian at the Harmonics of Nature.
Finding this universal 0 point would be the key to communication / expression / influence / engineering at other scales of existence. We could talk to God above us, God beneath us, God beside us, God within us…
